"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ," Philippians 3:7-8
Paul is saying this knowledge is greater than having all other things. It is more than just knowing facts about Christ, but rather it is to know Him. "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings being made conformable unto his death;" There is nothing greater than experiencing Christ in your life. Paul took the things that could elevate itself to rob him of this place with Christ and put those things in subjection to Christ. And he counts them as worthless compared to being close up with Christ.
"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ..... Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss..." Paul saw a preciousness in the love of Christ that so motivated him to count all thing but loss that he might suffer for Christ. Paul is saying, "that I might be fully consumed in Christ's love for me".
Knowing Christ Jesus your Lord is greater than any other privilege you have ever been given. He is finer than any other advantage you will ever encounter. There is nothing superior to what you find in the Person of Christ. He is unique in that there is none like Him, nothing to whom you can compare Him; for He is the Son of God/the Son of Man, God clothed in human flesh.
The choice before us is the same as Paul made. A voluntary choice to sacrifice all you have from the world and you could expect from the world: "Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"
