Having A Part With Christ

By Pastor Roger Redmond
Jesus is giving an illustration that sin in the life of a Christian will keep you from having a part with Christ. Sin breaks the fellowship - separates you from the power of Christ - renders you useless in completing your assignment for Him

John13:8 "Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me." Jesus was teaching much more than foot washing or humility -He is teaching about having a part with Him (sharing something with Him). Peter had been washed (saved) but he needed daily washing ( pictured by washing the feet). "He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean..." Jesus is giving an illustration that sin in the life of a Christian will keep you from having a part with Christ. Sin breaks the fellowship - separates you from the power of Christ - renders you useless in completing your assignment for Him. Two types of washing: 1. "He that is washed.." Occurred when you believed on Christ for eternal life. 2. "...needeth not save to wash his feet..." Represents cleansing from sin after salvation and takes place when you confess your sin to Christ. Have you been washed( Saved)? 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Are you keeping your feet clean (your daily life)? 1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
