1Pe 1:4 " To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,"
The question that begs to be answered is this: What is being reserved? Immediately you think my place in heaven! But, that is not the answer. If you have been saved, there is a place in heaven for you. You are an heir of God and that is an unconditional inheritance. The certainty of your place in heaven depends totally upon the faithfulness of God. In other words, you are guaranteed a place in heaven by Christ. There is nothing that can be done to revoke that standing and that is laid out in the Word of God, 1 John 2:25, John 10:28. A home in heaven is your unconditional inheritance because of believing on Christ for eternal life.
But, the inheritance in this scripture, 1 Peter 1:1-11 is conditional and depends on what you do with your life after being saved. Let me illustrate it this way from Mat 6:19 -20 "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:" The treasures on earth is not earth itself but rather the things you value and store up for yourself. Treasures in heaven are not heaven itself but the eternal things you value and store up in heaven (your works you do for Christ) and that is your inheritance that is reserved for you! May I ask you these two questions: 1. Do you have a place in heaven? If not you can by believing on Christ for Eternal Life, John 6:47. 2. What treasures are you laying up for yourself in heaven? You need to be doing something for Christ every day of your life. Romans 12:1, John 15:1-11, 2 Tim. 2:12.
